Can I add a think tank on the Map?
If you would like to recommend a think tank, please fill out and send us this form. Our researchers will review the submitted data and if the think tank meets all the criteria outlined in the about section, it will be added to the Map.

Who supplies the data about the think tanks?
In order to keep the data presented on the Map updated and reliable, the ICCG staff will periodically remind the think tanks via email to review their data and to provide updated information.

Can I update the data of a project, or of a think tank?
We periodically review the data posted on our site to keep them updated. However, if you want to suggest any necessary alterations, please send us an e-mail to the following address: thinktankmap@iccgov.org (see the contacts page). If the changes suggested are relevant, they will be carried out as soon as possible.

What kind of information do you provide for each think tank?
Each think tank has a dedicated page in which are listed the following data:
  • Type of organisation
  • Year of foundation
  • Country
  • Research fields
  • Overview
  • Current projects
  • Other initiatives
  • Facts

For an example, take a look at this page.

In the page dedicated to a think tank, what does the field "Type of organisation" mean?
This field is used to describe if a think tank was created as a research organisation, from a research project, or if it is an offspring from an institution. This field lists the think tank's affiliations, such as connections with universities, governments or other institutions.

What are "Current projects" and "Other initiatives"?
"Current projects" are long-term activities undertaken by researchers to analyse and find solutions to a practical problem. "Other initiatives" are relevant actions undertaken to achieve a concrete goal which does not nesessarily have to be linked to research. The publication of papers, event organisations (such as conferences, lectures, or media appearances), and awareness campaigns are considered "Other initiatives".

What are the "Research fields" used to describe a think tank's area of work?
See the description here.

How can I see the complete list of think tanks?

How can I see the list of all the think tanks which are active in a single country?
Just click on the "Global Map" icon under the Map, then select the country of choice from the list in the box below and click on the search button.

How can I see the list of all the think tanks working in a specific research field?
First choose the research field by clicking on the relative icon above the Map, then select the field "ALL COUNTRIES" from the list in the box below and click on the search button.

How can I see the list of all the think tanks which are working in a specific research field in a single country?
First choose the research field by clicking on the relative icon above the Map, then select the country of choice from the list in the box below and click on the search button.

What are the criteria that an organisation must comply with to be considered a Think Tank?
To be included in the Think Tank Map, a research organisation must comply with the following main criteria:
  • It must conduct both research and dissemination activities.
  • The final objective of its activities must be a practical solution, not the simple definition of a problem.
  • Policy makers and experts must be its main targets. The general public must be involved only as a means to influence policy makers.
  • Its projects and partners list must be updated and well-defined.
  • Its activities must be focused on climate change governance.

I have a question not covered in this section. What should I do?
Feel free to contact us with any question about the Think Tank Map. If you would like to suggest that a question be included in the F.A.Q. section, please let us know. See the Contact us page for contact details.
